Call for Proposals
The George Buchanan Forum is always interested in hearing from those whose work might find a home in one of our gatherings. We accept proposals on a rolling basis and consider them for the next conference where they fit.
The kind of work we host
We welcome scholarly proposals on political philosophy, theology, history, and political economy; work that brings classical and Christian sources to bear on questions of how the good life ought to be ordered. Past conferences have ranged widely: Plato and Locke, Aquinas and Calvin, the French Revolution and the Cold War, monetary theory and regenerative agriculture, Christian Nationalism and the limits of civil power. We don't work to a fixed theme, and we welcome proposals that engage these questions from whatever direction the question requires. See our catalogue of past papers for a sense of the range.
Practical details
TGBF holds conferences roughly twice a year, as schedule and material allow, in Moscow, Idaho. Each conference features four prepared papers, presented in person, with 30 minutes for the paper and 15 minutes for discussion. Presenters are responsible for their own travel and lodging, and we don't offer honoraria . TGBF is sustained entirely by donations and remains free and open to all who wish to attend. What we do offer is a serious, attentive audience, a recorded talk that joins our public archive, and the warmth of a gathering that takes the questions seriously.
Editorial orientation
TGBF is broadly oriented toward the classical and Christian tradition of natural law and toward a careful concern for the proper limits of civil power. Proposals should be compatible with that orientation. Beyond that, we welcome a wide range of perspectives and don't require submitters to share any particular position.
How to submit
Please complete the form here. We respond to proposals within a few weeks of receipt. Accepted papers are scheduled for the next conference where they fit, which may be several months out.
If you have questions about whether your work would be a good fit, please feel welcome to write before submitting. We'd rather hear from you than have you wonder.
